Hollywood star Gal Gadot, who is known for her action roles, made her comeback with Netflix’s Heart of Stone, which was released last week on the streaming giant. The movie features her alongside Jamie Dornan, Sophie Okonedo, and the Bollywood star Alia Bhatt. Known for starring in the Oscar-winning film RRR, the spy action thriller marks her Hollywood debut.
Many have even claimed that Bhatt outshines Gadot in the Netflix feature. However, fans have also been wondering why she hasn’t been active in the promotion of her Hollywood debut, and the 30-year-old actress recently addressed the fan query during an AMA session on Instagram.
Alia Bhatt on Not Promoting Her Hollywood Debut Alongside Gal Gadot
Tom Harper’s spy action thriller Heart of Stone, starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, and Alia Bhatt, has not been received very well by the critics. However, despite bad reviews, the movie has claimed the top spot on Netflix’s Top 10. The action flick follows the international intelligence agent Rachel Stone on a mission to save an AI from a tech genius, Keya Dhawan, portrayed by the Bollywood star.
While fans are loving Bhatt as Gadot’s nemesis in the movie, many have also wondered why they have not seen her promoting her Hollywood debut. The RRR actress recently addressed the question during an Ask Me Anything session on her Instagram.
She revealed that she has not been promoting the movie as a means of support for the SAG-AFTRA strike. The strike has been going on for over a month as artists demand fair pay from studios. WGA writers initiated the strike in May against the residuals from streaming media and the concerns over the use of AI in production.
“As a team, we stand behind the SAG-AFTRA strike, and as a mark of solidarity, we haven’t been promoting the movie,” Bhatt said before she thanked fans for their love and support. “Thankful for you all and sending all the love right back to you,” the actress said, expressing her gratefulness to fans worldwide.
Movies Affected By the Ongoing SAG-AFTRA Strike
The SAG-AFTRA strike has been going on for over a month and seems to have started to impact some of the major upcoming Hollywood projects. The issues regarding fair pay and the increasing use of AI were raised by the labor unions SAG-AFTRA amid the ongoing WGA strike that started in May this year.
The strike has not only impacted the promotional activities of Gal Gadot’s Heart of Stone but has also caused major issues in the production of some of the most prominent upcoming projects. It includes Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2, Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part Two, and Clint Eastwood’s upcoming movie, Juror #2, which is also credited to be his “final film.”
Some of Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated upcoming movies, including Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer Deadpool 3 and the threequel in Tom Hardy’s Venom series, have also seen a halt in their production. Filming for the sequel to Tim Burton’s 1988 film Beetlejuice has also been paused amid the ongoing strike.
The strike has also had an impact on the promotional and marketing activities of several upcoming projects, with actors refusing to participate in such events. Reports also claimed that some of the studios are also planning to skip major events such as Comic Con this year.
Herat of Stone is streaming on Netflix.
